Ky Hurst

Ky Hurst is the only man ever to win seven Australian ironman titles. A professional athlete for many years, Ky is most well-known for his significant success on the national ironman circuit, however he has also achieved national success as a swimmer both in the pool and in open water.

Ky was born in Nambour, Queensland in 1981 and began his rise to fame by training and competing in swimming and life saving at the tender age of eight. His determination to excel at his chosen sports has allowed Ky to become one of Australia’s top sportsmen.These qualities also earned Ky the nickname “Killer”- a reflection of his desire to succeed.

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, mother and great uncle – all hold national or world titles, Ky has become well established as an Australian elite athlete, well known for his significant achievements on the national Ironman circuit, and has achieved success as a swimmer, both in the pool and in open water.

Until now, Ky has been training under the guidance of one of Australia’s foremost swimming coaches, Dennis cottrell, on the Gold Coast. He has now stepped up to the plate, making the move to Sydney to take on a specialist coaching regime under Tracy Menzies, who coached Ian Thorpe until his recent retirment.

Ky has won several Ironman contests plus numerous other awards and has now turned his sights to swimming and setting himself the challenge of competing against the world’s best, at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
