IS THIS THE DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APPS?

For the second weekend in a row Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has ruled at the box office, grossing over $353 million since its release. In the same time, over 1.15 million apps were downloaded with over 800 downloads per second, 51,000 new apps were added to the App Store, making a total of 1.2 million apps available for people to run their lives.

While everyone is waiting for apes to invade, we haven’t realised our lives have already been taken over by apps. It’s no surprise that over two-thirds of Australians own a smartphone, and research shows that this number is increasing.

Not only are smartphones providing users with quick access to internet, emails and messaging, it also has allowed for the introduction of apps which give the ability to bank, shop, get fit, place bets, receive sport updates and even date! The takeover of the apps has also seen the emergence of some unusual apps including dressing Kim Kardashian, popping bubble wrap, Candy Crush, Talking Tom, Flappy Birds and a Flying Cyrus Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball app!

Award winning App King Dale Carr, CEO of Leadbolt which places over five billion ads a month across 65,000 apps in over 150 countries worldwide says,

“We’ve seen these apps act as the Swiss army knife of the 21st century, with the ability to do almost anything. It is safe to say we are victims of the Dawn of the Planet of the Apps.”

“Every business is looking for a way to standout, and advertising through apps allows them to do this. They have opened the door for new innovations and partnerships worldwide.”

Australia has now fallen into the trap of the app revolution and we aren’t resisting. The question on all our minds is ‘is this the Dawn of the Planet of the Apps?’ asks Dale.

In addition to Dale winning EY Entrepreneur of the Year for Technology late last year, LeadBolt received the Australian Exporter of the Year award for technology from Prime Minister Tony Abbott, the 2013 NSW Premier’s Export Award, The Australian Business Award for E-Business and the 2014 Gold Stevie Award.

International awards include Media Summit’s Mobile Mafia Award for “Best Publishing Platform” in New York and the Mobile Excellence Award for “Best Mobile Ad Network” in Los Angeles.
